Aynara Ferraz Armas,
Assistant Teaching Professional

I am Aynara Ferraz Armas and I am originally from the Canary Islands, Spain, where I began playing tennis at the age of five. I came to the United States to compete at the collegiate level, starting my career at Indiana Wesleyan University, where I helped lead the team to the semifinals of Nationals, finishing as a top 4 team in the country. I later transferred to Franklin Pierce University for my junior year, where I played number 1 singles and doubles, qualifying for Nationals in doubles alongside my partner. In addition to my collegiate achievements, I have valuable experience teaching tennis to players of various ages and levels. I am currently the Graduate Assistant for the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams at Franklin Pierce University.

Sherry grew up in Kittery Point and first held a tennis racket on the red clay at York Golf and Tennis Club in the early 1960s. She and her husband were married on the grass lawn beside the Old Clubhouse, and their children learned to play in the junior programs. They went on to play on the York High School tennis teams. When asked to cover the Pro Shop on Sunday mornings, Sherry knew that she would enjoy the time spent in a familiar place with familiar, as well as new, people.
While teaching English full time at Portsmouth High School, Sherry was rarely able to work more often than Sunday mornings. In 2020, Sherry decided to fully retire after thirty-seven years in the classroom. Now she can spend more time in the Pro Shop and on the courts.
Sherry has always looked forward to the return of long-time members and staff, as well as the opportunity to meet new people at this beautiful club. As Sherry says, “May the season to come be filled with sunshine and fun!”

Hi my name is Hannah and I am a senior at Marshwood high school. I joined the tennis team 4 years ago and have loved the sport ever since. I also enjoy skiing, and am on the Marshwood Ski Team. Some hobbies of mine are cooking and baking, which I hope to make a career of someday. Working at YGTC has provided me with a lot of valuable work experience, and I love that it has allowed me to be a part of the tennis community!

I am from York Maine and enjoy spending my afternoon at the beach and with friends! I first held a racket on the clay courts at the age of eleven and have loved it ever since!
